Iwata on the 3DS as a Wii U controller, and why it will probably not happen

There was an investor meeting recently, and during this meeting, Iwata was asked about using the 3DS as a Wii U controller. But sadly there are some technical limitations, and here's what he had to say:

"While the Nintendo 3DS is communicating with the Wii or the Wii U, the Wii or the Wii U will not be able to access the Internet, and this technical restriction will remain unless we add some special hardware."

Another problem is that they don't want people people to have to buy separate hardware (the 3DS) to have that particular experience. Makes sense when you think about it!

So looks like we won't be using our 3DS to control the Wii U! But not to worry! The 3DS will still connect with the Wii U! Just not to control our games!
